What are Retainers?
Once you have completed your chosen orthodontics treatment, retainers will be used to maintain your new straight teeth and to avoid them relapsing.
What Retainers are available to me?
We have a few options to suit our patients:
- Bonded Retainer (recommended)
- Removable Retainer
- Vivera Retainers
What is a Bonded Retainer?
A bonded retained is fixed/bonded to the back of your teeth, which is completely invisible and discrete. This is the permanent retainer solution and will stop your teeth from relapsing. You will only require a normal tooth brush and can return to your normal daily dental hygiene.

Pros:
- Invisible and discrete
- Easy to clean with a normal tooth brush
- Comfortable
- Will not have to take retainer out to eat (no more losing your retainer)
Cons:
- Can’t use regular floss (you can use Oral B super floss)
- Will need to arrange non-regular checkups to maintain the retainer. The orthodontist will ensure it is not deteriorating or becoming loose
What is a Removable Retainer?
The removable retainer does the same job as the bonded retainer, but it can be easily removed and will also be visible to others. We do recommend that the retainer is worn for most of the day and only removed during drinking (apart from water), eating and brushing your teeth.

Pros:
- Easy to clean
cons:
- Visible to other people
- Needs taking out for eating and drinking
- Teeth can start to shift if forgotten to put back in
How much do retainers cost?
There will be no additional costs for retainers; these will be included in your orthodontic treatment plan.
