What to soak metal dentures in

Metal dentures are quite simply dentures that are made out of the metal – cobalt chrome.

Cobalt chrome is a very strong metal which has a high resistance to corrosion and is also a lighter weight that other metals. It is commonly used in dental implants as well as metal dentures. Chrome is a hypoallergenic metal.

Hypoallergenic is a term used to describe a material which is known to cause fewer allergic reactions. Before you did go ahead with any treatment using cobalt chrome you will need to discuss with your dentist any known allergies.

How To Look After Your Metal Dentures

Looking after your dentures is very important to ensure they last as long as possible. As well as brushing your remaining teeth (if any remain) and gums when your dentures are out (to prevent gum disease etc) it is also very important that you clean your dentures as you would of your natural teeth (every morning and night).

• Gently brush with paste to remove any food debris
• Use specific denture cleaning to solution to soak them in (follow the manufacturers instructions as this is not meant to soak overnight)
• Followed up by softly brushing again
